What does Christmas have to do with coaching?  If you just look at Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, or quality family time, you’ll miss it.  Matthew directs us to the key in his Gospel, quoting a prophesy from Isaiah 700 years before, that Mary would give birth to a baby that would be called Immanuel, meaning God with us.  From a purely practical perspective, Jesus asked a lot of questions.  God with us certainly could have imposed his teaching.  Instead he asks things like, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’, or ‘Who do you say I am?’  The questions have far reaching implications for the lives and belief systems of the people around Him.

More than that, God with us implies that He is right here.  He is in me, as a coach, guiding me to ask the right questions.  And He is with the person being coached.  In fact, the Holy Spirit has already planted truth in the hearts of each of us.  A good coach asks questions to draw that truth out and help a person toward a plan of action to apply it.

¿Qué tiene que ver la Navidad con el coaching? Si sólo miras a Santa Claus y Frosty el muñeco de nieve, o tiempo de calidad en familia, te lo perderás. Mateo nos dirige a la clave en su evangelio, citando una profecía de Isaías 700 años antes, que María daría a luz a un bebé que sería llamado Emanuel, que significa Dios con nosotros. Desde una perspectiva puramente práctica, Jesús hizo muchas preguntas. Dios con nosotros ciertamente podría haber impuesto su enseñanza. En cambio, él pregunta cosas como: ‘ ¿Qué quieres que haga por ti? ‘, o ‘ ¿quién dices que soy? ‘ Las preguntas tienen implicaciones de largo alcance para las vidas y los sistemas de la creencia de la gente alrededor de él.

Más que eso, Dios con nosotros implica que él está justo aquí. Él está en mí, un coach, guiándome para hacer las preguntas correctas. Y él está con la persona que está recibiendo el coaching. De hecho, el Espíritu Santo ya ha plantado la verdad en el corazón de cada uno de nosotros. Un buen entrenador hace preguntas para sacar esa verdad y ayudar a una persona hacia un plan de acción para aplicarlo.
