Don’t Rest from Work…

Don’t rest from work, work from rest.  Work is a good thing; effective work is better.  Effective work that meets a worthwhile goal is best.  Effective work meeting the purpose for which God has made you brings joy and fulfillment.  Most of us have been taught to work hard and seek success.  Mike Breen in Building a Discipleship Culture illustrates this rhythm of life as a semi-circle with a pendulum.  We work and work and work, arriving at the week end exhausted.  Then we repeat the process.

Better to rest first, determine what it is that God is calling us to and give ourselves completely to that.  Because God loves us, we know that fulfilling His purpose for us will bring joy and peace.  It will include those people and things that are most important.  So I ask: “Jesus, what are you saying to me today?  Who am I, in your eyes?  How do you want me investing my time?  It’s as if Jesus is a tree that transmits life and power to me, a branch, until I produce fruit (John 15).  So when I work, I’m accomplishing those things that He made me for.  If you’d like to talk about this, drop me a line at mark@lifechannelcoaching.com.

No descanses del trabajo…

No descansa del trabajo, trabaja desde el descanso. El trabajo es algo bueno; trabajo de forma eficaz es mejor. El trabajo eficaz que cumple con un objetivo que vale la pena es lo mejor. El trabajo efectivo que cumple con el propósito por el cual Dios te ha hecho trae gozo y plenitud. A la mayoría de nosotros se nos ha enseñado a trabajar duro y buscar el éxito. Mike Breen en si libro, Como Edificar una Cultura de Discipulado ilustra este ritmo de vida como un semicírculo con un péndulo. Trabajamos y trabajamos, y llegamos al fin de semana agotado. Luego repetimos el proceso, una y otra vez.

Mejor descansar primero, determinar a qué Dios nos está llamando y darnos por completo a eso. Debido a que Dios nos ama, sabemos que el cumplimiento de su propósito para nosotros traerá gozo y paz. Incluirá a esas personas y cosas que son más importantes. Así que le pregunto: “Jesús, ¿qué me estás diciendo hoy? ¿Quién soy, en tus ojos? ¿Cómo quieres que invierta mi tiempo? Es como si Jesús fuera un árbol que transmita la vida y el poder a mí, una rama, hasta que produzco fruto (Juan 15). Así que cuando trabajo, estoy logrando las cosas por las que él me hizo.
